What is Vein Treatment?
By understanding why and how vein problems can arise in patients, specialists, like the ones at Vein and Body Specialists, can help provide effective vein therapy. Veins are an important part of the circulatory system. Their main role is to carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. When valves are weakened or damaged, they fail to close properly, and blood moves more slowly throughout the veins. This can lead to a backflow and accumulation of blood and excess pressure in the veins.
A buildup of blood within the veins results in one of several venous conditions, resulting in a need for vein treatment to prevent medical issues. Vein and Body Specialists offers a wide range of advanced vein treatment options designed to minimize the appearance of bulging, discolored veins and to improve the overall function of the veins.
Who Needs Vein Treatment?
If you have a condition due to venous problems or are experiencing unsightly veins, you are likely a candidate for vein treatment. Some individuals are predisposed to vein problems, such as individuals whom are obese, pregnant, and have parents or grandparents with varicose veins. Venous problems are more common in women due to hormones released during pregnancy and abdominal pressure created by the baby.
Why Get Vein Treatment?
If you have very dark or bulging veins, you may notice that it is affecting your life. Many people with unsightly veins are embarrassed and resort to wearing only long pants or dresses to cover up the problem. However, unsightly veins can cause significant pain.
If you have problems with veins, you can find a solution that will reduce the appearance of veins and minimize any discomfort you may have. Our diverse vein treatments are suitable for a range of vein problems and can help you feel your best again.
What Vein Treatments Do You Offer?
At Vein and Body Specialists, we offer the following safe and effective vein treatments:
|Endovenous Laser Treatment||Endovenous Laser Treatment, or EVLT, is a treatment method used to correct the most common underlying cause of varicose veins. Sometimes called endovenous laser thermal ablation, this effective treatment became FDA approved in 2003 and has continued to rise in popularity since. No longer must you go through the process of reducing varicose veins through surgery. With EVLT, you can be part of a 98 percent success rate with a much less invasive procedure.
|Sclerotherapy||Sclerotherapy is a vein treatment that is FDA approved and minimally invasive. During this treatment, Saline or Polidocanol® solution is injected into the affected vein. The vein is immediately irritated, forcing it to swell and turn to scar tissue. This procedure is highly effective in that the vein becomes invisible, and the blood recirculates through surrounding healthy veins.
|Microphlebectomy||Often called ambulatory phlebectomy, microphlebectomy is a safe, effective procedure for the removal of varicose veins. This minimally invasive procedure is most often performed in conjunction with endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) for maximum effectiveness.
|Varithena®||Varithena® is an FDA approved polidocanol injectable foam used for treating varicose veins. Varithena® – also known as microfoam chemical ablation – is injected into the problematic areas of your varicose veins. The microfoam fills and collapses the veins, allowing blood flow to shift to healthier veins.
– Compression Stockings
These stockings are simple garments that apply pressure to the affected area, legs, and ankles, to prevent swelling, blood clots and leg heaviness. Compression stockings help to improve circulation by gently squeezing the leg to help the blood flow properly. Patients who have symptoms of vein disease or who have just undergone vein treatment typically wear compression stockings to aid in treatment.
– Walking/Calf pump exercises
– Leg Exercises
In terms of venous disease, leg exercises are short, prescribed routines for you to do at home. These exercises are selected to help promote circulation, minimize symptoms of vein disease and keep complications of varicose veins at bay. Regular leg exercise is proven to promote healthy blood flow and to get rid of some symptoms, such as pain and swelling in the legs caused by varicose veins.
