Located in Bellevue and serving Sandusky, Fremont, and Norwalk, Ohio, the board-certified radiologists at Vein and Body Specialists offer Varithena® for treating varicose veins. Dr. West and John Edwards, along with their highly skilled team, are known for providing caring, courteous, and expert service.
What is Varithena®?
Varithena® is an FDA approved polidocanol injectable foam used for treating varicose veins. Varithena® – also known as microfoam chemical ablation – is injected into the problematic areas of your varicose veins. The microfoam fills and collapses the veins, allowing blood flow to shift to healthier veins.
What Types of Veins can be treated with Varithena®?
Varithena® can treat a wide range of varicose veins including:
- Veins above the knee
- Veins below the knee
- Veins that have been previously treated with other methods
- Tortuous (twisted) veins
- Veins of both large and small diameters
What are the Benefits of Varithena®?
Since Varithena® is a non-thermal (does not require heat) treatment for varicose veins it comes with some advantages over other treatments:
- Non-surgical (no incisions)
- Non-thermal (no heating)
- Minimally invasive and nearly painless
- Procedure can be completed in less than an hour
- Can treat veins of varying sizes
- Can treat veins above and below the knee
- Fast results
- No sedation required
- Minimal downtime
What Can I Expect From Varithena® Treatment?
The doctor will insert a small needle or catheter tube into the area to be treated. The Varithena® microfoam will fill and collapse the targeted veins under ultrasonic guidance. When the veins collapse, blood flow will move to healthier veins nearby. The entire procedure usually takes under an hour, and patients can typically return to light activity the same day. Many of our patients require only one treatment to achieve desired results. Like sclerotherapy, veins will begin to disappear in a few days and fade away entirely within eight weeks and as soon as one week.
