What Are Skin Changes/Dermatitis?
Dermatitis is an umbrella term used to describe skin inflammation. The inflammation can be characterized by discoloration, pain, itching, changes in texture and burning. Because dermatitis can include a range of symptoms, it often goes undiagnosed and even misdiagnosed. These symptoms include:
- Hard-to-heal rashes
- Itching of lower legs
- Shiny skin, a sign of thinning skin
- Irritated or painful skin
- Discoloration, particularly skin has turned red or brown
- Flaking or dry skin
- Sores that will not heal
- Scabbing or crusting
If you have symptoms of skin change/dermatitis, trust only venous disease experts to diagnose and treat you correctly. The skin is often a reflection of the inner-workings of the body, and any obvious or painful changes are important to examine as soon as possible. Even if you do not have visible varicose veins, dermatitis is often a warning sign during the advanced stages of venous diseases.
What Causes Skin Changes/Dermatitis?
Skin changes and dermatitis are caused by venous disease. Venous disease occurs when the valves of the veins are damaged or weak and can no longer efficiently pump blood back to the heart. Instead, the blood pools in the lower extremities and creates a buildup of pressure. This pressure can lead to many venous conditions, including dermatitis. Dermatitis occurs when the pressure becomes so intense that the red blood cells and fluid leak into the tissue surrounding the veins, causing pain, irritation, and staining, which becomes discoloration above the skin’s surface.
