It’s no secret that Botox® is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market nowadays. With its minimally invasive procedure and no need for downtime or recovery, patients are always coming in wondering if Botox® is right for them. Dr. West wanted to go over what you should know about Botox® to determine if it’s the right treatment for you.
How exactly does Botox® work?
Botox® is a minimally invasive injectable gel treatment that is typically used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the upper third of the face. Botox® works because of its active ingredient, botulinum toxin. When injected into your treated area, the botulinum toxin temporarily causes the muscles in that area to relax, therefore stopping the repeated movements and expressions that cause the fine lines and wrinkles to appear. Botox® works differently from dermal fillers, like Juvederm®, because it affects the muscles in your treated area, rather than just filling in lost volume under the skin.
What can Botox® treat?
While Botox® can be used to treat a variety of concerns, Dr. David West typically recommends getting Botox® to treat fine lines and deep wrinkles in the following areas:
- Along the forehead
- Between the brows
- Along the bridge of the nose
- Around the outer eyes
When should I use Botox®?
There really is no perfect answer to this question. While some patients receive Botox® to treat the fine lines and deep wrinkles that they already have, it is also recommended that patients receive Botox® treatments to prevent the onset of unwanted sings of aging. Patients who come in for Botox® with Dr. West are typically between the ages of 35 and 65 who already see fine lines and wrinkles around their forehead, brows and outer eyes.
Am I a good candidate for Botox®?
If you’re unhappy with the fine lines and deep wrinkles on your forehead, between your brows, along the bride of your nose and around your eyes, and are looking for a quick and easy solution, Botox® may be right for you. Ideal candidates for Botox® are in good general health, do not suffer from any sever skin conditions, and have realistic expectations of their potential results. The best way to determine if Botox® is really right for you is to come in for a private consultation with Dr. West.
